At Breaking Barriers MI, we are not just about providing essential items to those in need; we are also committed to empowering our youth through meaningful educational experiences. Our unique Job Shell Program, hosted at the Franklin High School pantry, is a shining example of this commitment.
Empowering MOCI Students
This innovative program is specially designed for moderately cognitively impaired (MOCI) students, providing them with a valuable opportunity to develop practical skills in a supportive environment. These incredible students take on significant roles, managing the warehousing, sorting, and packaging of pantry goods. This hands-on experience is invaluable in helping them build confidence, develop work skills, and prepare for future employment opportunities.
The Job Shell Program focuses on real-world skills that are essential in any workplace. Students learn about organization, attention to detail, teamwork, and the importance of meeting deadlines. Our program is carefully structured to ensure that each student receives the guidance and support they need to succeed, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.
Benefits to the Community
Beyond the direct benefits to the students, this program also significantly impacts the community. By efficiently managing pantry operations, these students ensure that families in need receive their essentials promptly and efficiently. This not only enhances the effectiveness of our food pantry but also instills a sense of community service in the students.
