Breaking Barriers MOCI Greenhouse
Breaking Barriers for Kids & Families is dedicated to supporting Title One families and providing meaningful learning opportunities for students with moderate cognitive impairments (MOCI). We supply food to local school districts, ensuring families in need have access to essential resources.
Beyond food support, we empower MOCI students by offering hands-on job training through our food pantries. Additionally, we have established STEAM learning labs in local school districts, fostering innovation and skill development.
In 2024, we played a key role in opening a 10,000-square-foot greenhouse at the Garfield Skills Center. This greenhouse gives MOCI students (ages 18-26) the opportunity to cultivate fresh fruits and vegetables while gaining valuable agricultural and culinary skills. Through a farm-to-table learning experience, students learn to grow, harvest, and cook with fresh produce, promoting independence and healthy living.
